Two Recommendations: A book and a workout.

Every once in a while, I come across something that I find myself sharing with everyone. Lately, I have been telling everyone I see about a certain book and a certain workout. They are too good to keep to myself! I hope you enjoy them as much as I have!

The first is a book I came across as a free download for my kindle. It is not free anymore, but it is worth the $2.99 to purchase it. It is a book called: "Plenty: 31 Sips of Joy for Moms Everywhere" by Kari Patterson. I think it just came out in December. Maybe it is only available for the kindle? I am not sure. I have found this devotional to be so insightful, thought-provoking, encouraging and real. The author is a pastor's wife and the mother of two and she shares her personal struggles with being a mother and what God is teaching her. It is so good! It also has an application at the end of each day that is not only practical but challenging (for example: one is to have your children join you in one of your daily chores, enjoying them, and not worrying about how long it takes you to get it done.)

The second is a series of workout dvd's. They are by Lindsay Brin and have literally brought my abs back. I have diastasis recti, a separation in my abs brought on by pregnancy, and have found it so difficult to have a flat tummy again after each baby. However, after doing her postpartum workout dvds, my abs have gone flat in a matter of weeks and my separation has almost closed! The dvds I recommend are "Postnatal Bootcamp 2" and "Core Fitness". The first one has 6 core workouts and 6 strength/cardio workouts, each about 10 mintues long. I mix and match 2-3 so that my workout is never the same and I don't get bored. The Core Fitness dvd is great and I have found Lindsay to be the first workout instructor to really explain how to do different exercises so that I engage my abs and pelvic floor for amazing results. There are also 3 levels of difficulty so that you can follow along at your level, whether you just had a baby or it has been some time. I had previously given up on ever having a flat tummy again and have been shocked that it went away so quickly. I have told Cameron that he has to tell his patients about these dvds! She also has 3 dvds for pregnancy, each one targeting a different trimester. I did them while pregnant with Amalie and really enjoyed them. Lindsay's workouts are efficient and challenging and you WILL see results! (they are not all abs.) I think my next purchase will be THIS one.

Any good recommendations for me? ;)

In Christ, Laura

You will laugh at my recommendation...microfiber cloths! I bought a big pack on Amazon last year (like 40 of them) and have shared them w/ everyone. I enjoy cleaning a little more because of them...and use them for just about everything.
Thanks for your tips...I'll try out the devotional and maybe the dvd's...stomach isn't the problem here--it's thighs! ugh! You got me hooked on Paperback Swap years ago!

Thanks for the recommendations. I also struggle with a really bad case of diastasis recti and have been frustrated with my tummy. Just ordered those DVD's and will look for that book!

I love to run.. and signed up for a half marathon June 2nd. (Dexter Ann Arbor run) I am recovered from surgery and starting to run again! Running is my passion.

I also love Jillian Michaels DVDs. I have several of them but have been getting use out of her 30 day shred. http://www.amazon.com/Jillian-Michaels-30-Day-Shred/dp/B00127RAJY/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1360424198&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=30+day+shred

Of course my abs are not flat, and never have been. I wish I had the discipline to eat better and do more ab work. Also have a giant scar going down my tummy now, but I'm sure if I put my mind to it I could have flat abs.
