5/23/12 4:00PM: We received the MRI results – overall good news. There is evidence of damage from the lack of oxygen but these areas of damage are small. The neurologist described them as small areas of stroke. No one seemed surprised by this. They were happy to see that there is no swelling and no large areas of damage. None of the areas of damage are located where there would be loss of certain motor or muscle functions, loss of sight or loss of hearing. This is good news. This is great news. The doctors do say that they still can’t give predictions about how long it will be before he is more fully awake or what limitations may be ongoing for Truman. The neurologist explained it this way: the lack of oxygen caused a type of damage to all the nerves in the brain that is not detectable on MRI but for sure happened. This is not necessarily permanent damage but a type that will take some time to heal – weeks and possibly months. I will wrap this up quickly and report that they are already talking about removing the breathing tube tomorrow and physical therapy is already starting to work with him! This is a BIG praise. Please pray now for Truman’s safety while the place a PICC line. It is happening in the next hour. It is a catheter that goes in the vein of his arm and goes up to but not into the heart. Please pray that this goes well. Thank you.
